The National Trust’s Frensham Ponds in Surrey takes centre stage in Snow White and the Huntsman, a Gothic re-imagining of the classic Brother’s Grimm fairytale, Snow White released in 2012 where Frensham Ponds was transformed into a medieval fishing village for the Hollywood blockbuster which features a host of stars in the lead roles, including Oscar winner Charlize Theron as the evil queen, Chris ‘Thor’ Hemsworth as the huntsman and Kristen Stewart as Snow White. Doyden Castle set the dramatic (and humorous!) final scenes in the last episode of the popular TV series Doc Martin in 2011 featuring Martin Clunes. The beautiful Crom estate on the shores of Upper Lough Erne in Northern Ireland provided the backdrop for the TV series The Blandings scheduled for BBC1 in Autumn 2012 staring Timothy Spall and Jennifer Saunders. Filming of Bridget Jones Diary (2001) staring Renee Zellweger, Hugh Grant and Colin Firth took place at Snowshill Manor set in the pretty village of Snowshill in Gloucestershire set high in the northern Cotswolds. A number of the wizardry delights of Harry Potter were filmed at Lacock Abbey and Village in Wiltshire including The Philosopher’s Stone (2001), The Chamber of Secrets (2002) and The Half Blood Prince (2009). The cottage was also used by the stars of the popular costume drama Cranford to relax in between takes which featured stars including Judi Dench.
