These attractive and cosy Byres are in a wonderful location on the Stackpole Estate.

This cosy cottage for two is in a complex of sympathetically converted farm buildings just metres from the sea, cliff path and quay. It has lots of character, retaining its stone walls and wooden beams. If feeling energetic you have great water sports on your doorstep, including canoeing and coasteering!

The cottage's layout

Ground floor
kitchen, dining/sitting room with multi-fuel stove, one double bedroom (with 6' bed which can also be a twin on request) and bathroom with shower over bath.
Visitor notes

There is a shared grass area situated to the side and rear of the Byre Cottages. This area leads down to a shingle beach. If you follow the coastal paths, this will lead to unfenced cliff tops.

The bedroom and bathroom are on the ground floor but the cottage may not be suitable for wheelchair users. We no longer provide a cot and high chair at this cottage. Gas central heating included.

South Wales

South Wales is a region rich in natural resources. Beautiful valleys which once saw the growth of some of Britain's greatest industries, offer visitors magnificent scenery and glimpses of the past. Much of the outstanding natural beauty of the area remains untouched. It is a land of contrasts, mountains and moorlands, forest and farmland and magnificent stretches of unspoilt coastline. The National Trust's interests in South Wales include large areas of the Brecon Beacons, Pembrokeshire and Gower, as well as the Dolaucothi Gold Mines, spectacular Aberdulais Falls and the Tudor Merchant's House in Tenby.

South West Wales has spectacular coastline, unspoilt countryside, thrilling activities and fascinating places to visit, making it one of the UK's most appealing holiday destinations. Pembrokeshire, on the South West tip of Wales, is a spectacular coastal region, surrounded on three sides by the sea. The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park takes in the entire coastal strip - the only national park in the UK to be wholly coastal in nature and for good reason. The coastline is stunning! Neighbouring Carmarthenshire is known as the 'garden of Wales' and home to the National Botanic Garden. Visitors can explore the rich heritage and culture, myths and legends, with spectacularly sited castles and picturesque market towns and the area is a paradise for nature lovers and birdwatchers, with the Red Kite a common sight soaring over the countryside. Cardiganshire in the north boasts dramatic clifftop scenery overlooking Cardigan Bay and a haven for wildlife and pretty traditional Welsh seaside towns such as Aberaeron, the home of the famous Welsh cob and where one house in every four is a listed building. National Trust places to visit include the beautiful Bosherston Lily Ponds, Barafundle Bay, Colby Woodland Garden and the Tudor Merchant's House in Tenby. Other attractions include the smallest Cathedral City in the UK, St Davids, many pretty seaside resorts, the Pembrokeshire Coast National Trail extending 186 miles from north to south and Oakwood theme park.

    Swimming on a deserted beach

We really enjoyed our return visit to Stackpole. The cottages and estate are very well considered. We also went Kayaking, which we enjoyed very much. It was great to have it so close to hand. We really enjoyed the proximity of the beach and coast line. This is a wonderful place. We particularly enjoyed the ability to wander to Barafundle beach late in the evening and go swimming on a deserted beach. The previous time was in October and we were very much on our own. This time, obviously at high season, the cottages were full and busy. It was a bit unfortunate that 4 of the cottages were taken-over by one family their activities (boats, ball games), barbeques, social gatherings and transport between the houses. This was a bit of a shame, as we did not feel able to sit outside of our cottage as much as we would have liked. I understand this is entirely the luck of the draw, when sharing open spaces with other people, and is also dependent on their respect for others. We would also like the opportunity to bring well behaved dogs. It seems a shame that given the location they have to stay at home.

    Lovely house

Lovely weather, lovely house, lovely countryside and beautiful beach. NT cottages are the best. A very welcome peaceful break from our too stressful lives. This really is a special part fo the country with so much natural beauty.

Our first stay in a National Trust property and it will not be our last; - warm and well equipped. The surroundings were perfect.
