With fabulous views over the landscape of Dunwich Heath and Beach from every window, this first floor apartment occupies an enviable position. The largest of the three apartments in a building that was once home to the Coastguard it now offers excellent accommodation for a couple or family.

This peaceful location is a bird watchers paradise with the heath on your doorstep attracting special species such as nightjar, woodlark and warblers. It neighbours impressive RSPB Minsmere where you can watch rare and migrating birds in the coastal lagoons. Hours of fun can be had exploring the vast, family friendly beach or taking part in the many activities on offer from pond dipping to bug hunting before returning for a well-deserved cake from the tea-room.

For a change of scenery the pretty seaside towns of Southwold and Aldeburgh are a short drive away. East Anglia
A beautiful day at Kings Marsh, at Orford Ness. A former salt-marsh, it is now enclosed by river walls and provides habitat for both waders and wildfowl. © Joe Cornish

The ancient kingdom of East Anglia has preserved much of its unspoilt character, rural landscape, architecture and traditions with attractions ranging from the University city of Cambridge and the Cathedral city of Ely, to glorious, often deserted, sandy beaches, lots of seaside fun, outdoor pursuits and the unspoilt waterways of The Broads. National Trust places in East Anglia are equally varied, ranging from the magnificent Blickling Hall in Norfolk, the impressive rotunda at Ickworth, near Bury St. Edmunds, the elegant Anglesey Abbey, to the dramatic coastline at Dunwich Heath, with its neighbouring RSPB sanctuary and the Anglo-Saxon royal burial site at Sutton Hoo.

    A wonderful property

Just a quick thank you to say once again how wonderful our stay was at Coastguard Cottages, Dunwich this past weekend!!! Again, it was another birthday weekend stay for me (50th this time !!) and this time we brought along a couple of friends who were seeing the whole set up for the first time. They absolutely loved it and I feel they will be making further arrangements for their own stay in the future now!!! The weather always helps and we had some lovely walks in the sunshine on both Saturday and Sunday, arriving back at the Tea rooms for Coffee and Cake!!!! I am back again at the end of February 2013 for extended 50th birthday celebrations this time in Flat 1 and 2 with more friends who have never stayed before, I just know they will also love it. Thanks for such a wonderful property, it always makes me and my wife happy when we stay there!!!

    Brilliant location

Brilliant location, very sunny and enjoyable, long beach walks. Have visited these places many times before, but not been able to stay so close to the beach before. Would love to return.

Our 4th visit to the flats

Our 4th visit to the flats, still nice and peaceful and a joy to bring our grandson here and show him the same things we showed our other two sons over the past 25 years.
