This beautiful Edwardian cottage is positioned in the heart of the magnificent gardens surrounding Powis Castle. Built in 1908, The Bothy's Edwardian half timbered style, was chosen to reflect the rustic cottage garden theme that was popular in Edwardian times. It offers fantastic views over the garden from the majority of its rooms, all of which have traditional features. The market town of Welshpool is a leisurely 1 mile stroll through the medieval deer park.

The cottage's layout

First floor
four bedrooms (1 family room with 5' double bed, with walk-through adjoining single bedroom and en-suite shower room with lavatory, plus two twin bedrooms, all with antique brass/iron beds) and bathroom with traditional roll-top bath.

The staircase in this cottage is steep.

There is no private garden or designated children's play area but there is a small patio area within the main gardens where you can sit and enjoy glorious views. Guests have access into the Castle garden during their stay.

The cot in this cottage is a travel cot.

Please note that you will need to arrive before 7pm, which is the electronic security gate deadline for entry into the Powis Castle Estate. After this time the main gates will be locked and entry will not be possible. An electronic zapper for the gates will be left for you in the keysafe for your use during your stay.

Holiday cottage guests have free access to Powis Castle and gardens during opening hours.

The border counties of England and Wales have some of the most beautiful countryside in the United Kingdom with the added bonus of being rich in fascinating history and culture. Battles have been fought over these lands for thousands of years as evidenced by the abundance of castles, ancient forts, and other historic sites. Powis Castle, built by the princes of Upper Powis is one castle owned by the Trust, which stands in magnificent gardens close to the market town of Welshpool. The austere exterior of the fortress of Chirk Castle, completed in 1310, belies the comfortable and elegant state rooms inside and the beauty of its formal gardens. Offa's Dyke offers excellent walking and nearby Mid-Wales offers wonderful opportunities for birdwatching, with the area being a haven for Red Kites.

  • A non-refundable £10 charge is not included, and will be added to the total price of your holiday to cover the cost of accidental breakages
  • Unfortunately we cannot accept website bookings more than 15 months in advance. Please call 0844 800 2070 or email cottages@nationaltrust.org.uk to enquire about future cottage bookings and reservations.
  • As part of the annual pricing review of all its cottages the National Trust reserves the right to move individual cottages up or down the price bands and to alter date breaks. We also reserve the right to charge supplements for certain cottages for specific dates covering special events, e.g. Rosetta Cottages on the Isle of Wight during Cowes week. We will notify you of any special event supplements at the time of booking.
