 Orford Ness

Suffolk
Suffolk is a wonderful place to recharge the batteries, to enjoy unspoilt scenery and gently explore what this beautiful and historic county has to offer. For nature lovers it offers mile after mile of unspoilt coastline, with deserted beaches and an abundance of wildlife. Exceptional conservation areas such as the National Trust’s Dunwich Heath and the RSPB’s Minsmere are complemented by some great areas of woodland. Quaint English villages such as Flatford, and the remnants of the secret military establishment on Orford Ness demonstrate the very different options available for the curious. A little further away, Ickworth house, near the stylish Georgian town of Bury St Edmunds offers an insight into lavish and outrageous eccentricity. If its art and culture you’re looking for then Suffolk has it in abundance. Browse the narrow streets of Woodbridge and discover the many art galleries and craft shops, filled with a colourful and striking array of gifts and collectibles. The nearby towns of Aldeburgh and Southwold will leave you in raptures when you have tasted the delights of freshlycaught seafood and locally brewed beer.

Dunwich Heath
Dunwich Heath and the adjacent RSPB reserve of Minsmere are recognised for their conservation importance and are nationally renowned for superb birdwatching in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Forests and natural heathland set against a back drop of dramatic coastline have not only provided a unique habitat for wildlife and birds such as the rare nightjar and Dartford warbler but also offer tremendous walking opportunities. Pathways along this cliff top offer magnificent sea views, both stunning in summer and equally glorious for bracing winter walks. Cycle quiet country lanes or trail circular routes via the eminent ‘Eels Foot’ pub at Eastbridge, returning along the beach to our award winning tea room.
