| | | | Visitors' Book - Lighthouse Keeper's Cottage 2Souter Lighthouse Whitburn Sunderland Tyne & Wear | From: | Peter & Kate | | Message: | We travelled up to Souter to celebrate my 50th birthday, and were slightly concerned due to the fact that we were very late arriving and weather had been bad over the previous 24 hours. We needn't have worried, the cottage was heated and we were very impressed with the attention to detail from NT staff... when we went into the kitchen there was even a little bowl of dog biscuits for our four-legged visitor. The cottage is wonderful, traditional and very cosy; it feels as though you are staying in someone's home rather than in a holiday-let, and each cottage has its own little walled garden. The location is beautiful and I'm sure - at times - elemental. We couldn't recommend more highly and we shall return. |
From: | S Parr | | Message: | Really enjoyed a peaceful break at the cottage over bank holiday in August 2009. It had everything you needed and was located in a lovely spot overlooking the headland. There are walks for all, you can walk as far as you want along flat headland with wide open grassed areas. There is a pub on a nearby beach thats worth a walk, down a lift 100ft to beach. The beaches are sandy and have spectacular views. Get up early and watch the sunrise! Great location if NT member for Hadrians Wall, Gibside and Washington Old Hall. South Shields is worth a visit and a drive along the coast should include Tynemouth and St Marys Lighthouse. If the weather is nice sit in the garden for breakfast looking out over the sea. |
From: | Tahnyet Faroqui | | Message: | A roomy well furnished cottage. The lighthouse, cottages and surrounding gardens appear to be lovingly maintained. Lovely cliff walks and brilliant views of the sea . Thoroughly enjoyable week. It is positioned in a perfect part of the country and has fresh, sea air. |
