Fountains Hall | Yorkshire Yorkshire is, not surprisingly, England's most popular holiday destination, as this vast county offers something for everyone. The beautiful countryside of the Dales and Moors, a dramatic and unspoilt coastline, a wealth of historic towns and cities, spectacular ancient ruins, and some of the most magnificent houses in the country. The National Trust owns over 24,000 acres of coast and countryside across the county as well as some splendid historic properties. These include Beningbrough Hall, East Riddlesden Hall, Nunnington Hall and the spectacular Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal. |
| | | Robin Hood's Bay The 600 foot high peak at Ravenscar offers dramatic views across the sea to the charming 17th-century fishing village of Robin Hood’s Bay. There are good beaches close by as well as the historic coastal towns of Whitby and Scarborough. The North York Moors and the principal centres of Pickering and Helmsley are within easy travelling distance. Ravenscar is the Victorian town that ‘never was’, intended in the late 19th-century as a holiday resort to compete with Whitby and Scarborough. Only some roads now remain, to illustrate the past.
