 Fountains Hall

Yorkshire
Yorkshire is, not surprisingly, England's most popular holiday destination, as this vast county offers something for everyone. The beautiful countryside of the Dales and Moors, a dramatic and unspoilt coastline, a wealth of historic towns and cities, spectacular ancient ruins, and some of the most magnificent houses in the country. The National Trust owns over 24,000 acres of coast and countryside across the county as well as some splendid historic properties. These include Beningbrough Hall, East Riddlesden Hall, Nunnington Hall and the spectacular Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal.

Fountains Hall
Fountains Hall was built between 1598 and 1611, partly with stone from the ruins of Fountains Abbey by Stephen Proctor. The building has a mellow, romantic quality and is a perfect example of its period built for peace and prosperity. The south facing Hall is approached through the West Gate entrance to Fountains Abbey, with stunning views across the river to the monastic wall and beyond to the open Yorkshire countryside. The last family to live at Fountains Hall were the Vyners and HM The Queen Mother was one of their regular guests. The two holiday apartments have been named after the first and last occupants and take their inspiration from two of the leading designers of the 20th-century. The furnishing and décor in Proctor has been inspired by Charles Rennie Mackintosh whereas Vyner follows the style of Edwin Lutyens. Holiday Cottage guest have free access to Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Estate during opening hours
