Holnicote Estate A magical place that many who visit never want to leave. The Holnicote Estate covers 12,500 acres of the Exmoor National Park and is a landscape rich in picturesque villages, glorious sweeping views, abundant wildlife and a network of footpaths and bridleways. The village of Selworthy nestles at the foot of the wooded slopes rising to open moorland and to Selworthy Beacon from where there are huge panoramic views across the Bristol Channel. The village is very picturesque and was transformed by Sir Thomas Dyke Acland, the 10th Baronet, in a ‘cottage orne’ style to provide housing for retired estate staff. The cottages are built of cob and stone with thatched roofs and yellow limewashed walls and together epitomise the villages in this part of Exmoor. Ivy Cottage sits on Selworthy Green at the very heart of the village and the estate. The north Somerset coastal towns of Minehead and Porlock are within easy reach.
