Acorn Quality Grading Scheme

We have applied a 1 - 5 rating for each cottage and apartment, which is purely to help guide the reader to a certain style of cottage that they may be looking for as with so many cottages, all of an individual nature, we recommend that all factors be considered when making your choice.

The criteria used when deciding which Acorn rating to apply includes the environment - the location, setting and exterior of the building.  The interior - including the style of decoration, furnishings and fittings allowing the normal wear and tear and any conservation stipulations that our Curatorial team may have applied.

The facilities that are provided are taken into account, such as a dishwasher, tumble dryer and so on.

The range runs from 1 Acorn at a more basic level (such as Bird How on page 133 which due to its stunning yet remote location does not have a Caretaker) through to 5 Acorns at the highest level.

Cottage pricing is not judged on the Acorn rating alone, other factors such as the number of people that a cottage will accommodate and its popularity are taken into account.  Therefore some cottages are priced in a higher price band than others with the same or less number of Acorns.
