South Wales
South Wales is a region rich in natural resources. Beautiful valleys which once saw the growth of some of Britain’s greatest industries, offer visitors magnificent scenery and glimpses of the past. Much of the outstanding natural beauty of the area remains untouched. It is a land of contrasts, mountains and moorlands, forest and farmland and magnificent stretches of unspoilt coastline. The National Trust's interests in South Wales include large areas of the Brecon Beacons, Pembrokeshire and Gower, as well as the Dolaucothi Gold Mines and the Tudor Merchant's House in Tenby.

Dinefwr
Dinefwr
Land of power and influence for over 1000 years, Dinefwr Park and Castle is an iconic place in the history of Wales. Dinefwr Castle, which is where the Lord Rhys, Prince of Deheubarth held court, overlooks the superb eighteenth-century designed landscape and Newton House. The ground floor and basement of Newton House are furnished c.1912. The new exhibition on the first floor tells visitors about Dinefwr’s past. Visitors will be inspired to explore the park, home to over 100 fallow deer and a herd of rare White Park Cattle.
Cwmdu
Rhyd yr Onnen (ford of the ash tree) is the official name of the late Georgian terrace of cottages, post office and inn at Cwmdu in Carmarthenshire. From 1837 to 1984, the terrace had been in the hands of one family until the last owner, Miss Annie Griffiths who ran the inn and shop until she was 94 years of age. The National Trust bought the terrace after a period when it had been unoccupied and restored it and in 1994 the post office and inn were re-opened to serve the local community supported by the income from the 3 holiday cottages.
Dolaucothi
This is the only known Roman gold mine in Britain and is the only opportunity to see some of the lost gold mining heritage of Wales. The main mine yard contains a collection of 1930s machinery, an exhibition about the history of gold and gold mining and you can also pan for gold. Underground tours of the mine run throughout the day. Other attractions include leafleted walks through the wooded hillsides overlooking the Cothi Valley and there is an Information Centre in Pumsaint. Holiday Cottage guests have free access to Newton House during opening hours
